Welcome to my September update!
I initially planned to share this update at the start of the week, but I’ve held off until my gorgeous girl has finished her first day at college so that I can let you know how she’s got on! It’s all worked out today well at her Induction Day, there has been apprehension followed by smiles and new friends made!
I am sure that you have noticed this week that Social Media feeds are flooded with back to school photos and people voicing their internal debate about whether we are mourning the summer (or what could have been summer) and delighted to be back into the routine they now crave!
It’s a funny old situation isn’t it? Before summer arrives many of us fantasize about the long summer nights, having more time with our loved ones, doing what we like, being outdoors, blending our work with family time, as the opportunities allow! Often by the end of the holidays, many of us are more than ready for the routine; that feeling of a ‘new year’ beginning and growth emerging
This year has been unusual in our house. After 12 years of school, we totally fist pumped when the end of May arrived and the only time left in school was doing exams. We jumped on a plane, the day after my girls last exam. Spent a week in the sun, de-compressing and re-connecting over what we liked rather than our shared mission to get through the school days!
The summer has been great! Finding a new routine, going with the flow, meant that by the end of the holidays we weren’t clear what day it was and boundaries were totally out of the window! Negotiating lifts to friends, the swimming baths and other fun activities (because I’m certainly only fun enough to do the transporting)! Interrupted zoom calls because my girl had forgotten I’m working. Friends and boyfriend round, raiding the fridge. Ollie the collie thought all his Christmases had come at once with both of us at home and then visitors as well. Result!
So today has been the start of the new routine and I am fired up! It’s different from what’s come before and I am optimistic that it will be even better as well. Ollie is already settling into it, look how chilled he is!
